NCAA Division III hockey used to be a reliable Plan B for high school players failing to land on an NCAA Division I roster. But now D-III college coaches, which have no athletic scholarships — are recruiting older junior hockey players.

Players are also coming into the D-III level of college hockey from higher level leagues than ever before.
