Sports Nutritionist Matt Kadolph recently joined our staff at Victorious Hockey Company so naturally I turned to him for this week’s Five.
Matt Kadolph –
Before I outline what my five worst post game meals are, it’s important to understand what the primary goal is of a post game meal. Depending on whether or not you have another game the same day or within the next 24 hours (ie. a tournament) it can make a difference between what you should be eating versus what you should not be eating or should at least trying to avoid.
If you have another game a few hours later, or the next day, it’s going to be more important to supply your body with more nutritious foods. The ultimate goal of a post game meal is to shift your body into recovery mode and to supply your body with as many nutrients as possible.
Playing hockey burns a lot of calories and it’s important that we replace those calories with as many “high quality” calories as possible.
